I say this as a great fan of it. Or at least WAS. Its one thing with Nanami Haruka being her. Someone who I'll be surprise if anyone even relate to her. But even the other character was really pushing it. Sure there's some romantic feeling developing in the male character. But you can seriously tell there is going to be 0 development in relationships. I watch reverse harem to see bishies fighting for the Protagonist and having some development. Not to see one clueless to a whole new level. And tons of guys seemingly acting like they are stepping on broken glasses around her. All I need is protagonist at least having a bone to stand on and not being push around. I can't immerse in a character that I can't relate at all. The least they could do is have a character i could look up to be. Like really is there any innocent and clueless girl love watching Reverse harem? Is there any girl who don't expect at least a holding Hand and a kiss scene? One reason why I just got rid of nanami haruka and just ship the guys together. Fight me if you want

- Sylva Lane: I find that the most effective way to have immersive protagonists in a story is to have more than one. A story doesn't need to have a single protagonist, you just make it so that there are a couple main characters with none of them completely overpowering the others. With this format, you can give each character an interesting personality,so long as they're all different. A person doesn't have to completely relate to one character on a spiritual level, they just need to find enough similarities within the group of characters that they can find at least one of them in each of the different situations that has a similar response or that they can relate to. Whether the person they relate to changes in each situation, or they take a bit of the reactions of each of the characters, as long as they relate in some way to the main characters in each situation, it is a successful immersion.

- The Admiral Angel: I know this sounds like a stretch, but honestly...I think Hachiman Hikigaya from My Teen Romantic Comedy is probably the best MC in the high school romantic/slice of life genre. Mainly because he's not the typical idiotic, boring, or dense protagonist that other characters are in the same genre. He's this antisocial guy with a very negative, snarky, personality. His deep and interesting way of viewing high school social life also makes him stand out. He's a character that I can definitely relate to, and his character development is also pretty good. To put it basically, he's like a normal version of Batman. Heck, he's even got the nickname 8man in the fandom.

- Three people use this account: I think Danganronpa protags are some of the best. Makoto Naegi, Hajime Hinata, Komaru Naegi, Kaede Akamtasu, Shuichi Saihara, Etc. (I'm only going over the games even though I've read the mangas and light novels calm down please) Makoto was supposed to be very normal and the fact that he is, Is pointed out, At the start of the game he says he's so average because (enter whatever) and (whatever) he gives us example of things we'd do. But as the story progresses we get to see he's a lot different from us actually with him being WAY more hopeful than a normal person, Even though he's in a killing game. Hajime was supposed to seem mysterious because he didn't remember anything, So we kept wondering who he was. He was a bit sassy but we knew nothing else. But when we find out he's even more bland than Makoto, That he has no talent. We can't be either of these protags even though how boring on the outside they seem. Komaru was a coward girl and was nothing like her brother. She would cry when scared, She would break down, She was a lot more forceful too. She was the opposite of him, But both are being able to relate someway. Kaede was outgoing, Strong, Independent, Sassy, And all. She was also someone you can relate too but not too much. Her backstorying was bland like Komaru and Makoto's and most of Hajime's past. So that we could relate with them and see "oh hey there normal" Then Shuichi was made so we couldn't relate, Is backstory way different then ours, He wasn't "talentless" like Hajime Komaru and Makoto for the first part. We we're put into his shoes so we could have this disconnection of not being able to relate. I think there all some of my favorite characters in general because of how well their written. (Same with all Danganronpa characters but that's because Kadaka makes sure he could make a spinoff of just that character.) I also like none of them CAN be op because they're still challenged, They still can't beat Junko. None of them actually did cause she always comes back. And all need someone else's help with investigating or fighting. I liked this approaches of protags, Instead of the blank ones were you make there own personalities (Persona, MS, etc) but we're still able to relate making a good character overall.

You can't know everything about him so that makes it harder on the audience to relate properly. Now I'm not saying it's essential for a character to be good, but it most certainly helps. - Catherine Love: This video definitely opened me up to the most likely reason why SAO is so popular and well-loved in the U.S. - no one here has read or even knows the light novel versions of the series exist. I didn't, until I saw this video. For that reason, most of the watchers here aren't looking for immersion, so Kirito's OP personality doesn't have much of an effect. It also proves why a lot of girls like SAO - they also aren't looking for immersion in Kirito's role. Which, again, means his OP-ness doesn't do anything.

The WORST main characters imo are the ones that are in romcomcs or ecchi shows and are surrounded by women who want their dick, and they themselves recognize titties with all their blushes and stuff...and yet seem to never go "yeah, im gonna fuck one or more of these girls...or at least ask one out on a date and try to have a relationship" That's why I love Issei from highschool DxD so much. The girls want the D and he wants to give it to them so bad and has a legit reason for not having done so yet given some psychological trauma he has. He's thirsty as fuck and trapped in an oasis but has had his mouth sewn shut so he can't get a mother fucking drink because last time he tried to take a drink, it was salt water. Way better than those main characters who are not only not thristy but apparently don't even need water to survive. How can i remotely relate to or self insert into a character who wouldn't say "yes please" to the millions of girls that these characters have access to -_- Ecchi harem progtags and gary stues are the only truly bad male main characters in my eyes.
- Syncrossus BAR: I find that the hacking scene in SAO is ragged on a bit too much. Of course it's unrealistic, but it's not too far fetched to imagine that within the beta tester community, there may have been a modding community, and that Kirito could have experimented with the command line, especially given that Kayaba was planning on making the game pretty much open source anyway (with the world seed). It's not too far fetched to say that there may be a command to turn an in-game entity into an object, if only to test the companion resurrection feature. All it takes then is knowing the ID of the entity and the command. Yui says her codename is Yui, which means it's likely to also be her ID. It's then only a matter of typing something like "itemizeentity E$YUI 1", assuming the itemizeentity command takes an entity ID and a number of copies of the item, with all entity IDs starting with the "E$" prefix. Just look at how easy it is to spawn an item in most games that support a command line or modding (Skyrim, Fallout or Legend of Grimrock for instance). Of course, it's unlikely and convenient that this could happen. But that's exactly my point : all this scene requires to make sense is a convenient and unlikely set of circumstances, not the second coming of Jesus like everyone seems to believe. And as for why they couldn't resurrect Yui like Pina if this is indeed what happened, maybe they didn't want to take the chance for the system to target Yui again, this time with no access to an admin command line.
