First up, Maps! Apple ditched Google's map service in favor of their own, which they built from scratch. And considering how high Google had set the bar, Apple delivered brilliantly with a vector-based set of 3d maps, which look great even when zoomed in. Also, GPS companies are on notice as the Maps software also provides turn-by-turn directions, traffic updates and a pretty sexy flyover feature. Number two, Siri. The personal assistant now speaks more languages, is available on the iPad and has access to lots more information. Ask Siri about movies, sports scores, make a reservation at a restaurant, or dictate a tweet or facebook status. And with the Eyes Free feature making its way to cars, expect to ask Siri for directions by pressing a steering-wheel mounted activation button. Third, Passbook. Aiming to gain ground on competitors like Google Wallet, iOS6's Passbook keeps track of all your gift cards, boarding passes, movie tickets, coupons, all of it! This feature is also location-based meaning your boarding pass will show up on your lock screen right as you arrive at the airport to check-in. Whoops, your flight was delayed. Passbook's already on it. Yeah, we like this one! Up next, Shared Photo Streams. As Apple continues to push its iCloud service, it's no surprise they've upgraded photo sharing in iOS6. It's easier than ever to share your pictures by simply selecting a photo, choosing who to share it with and hitting send. Photos are uploaded to the Cloud where they can be viewed by other Apple devices. And there's no limit to how many photos you can share. Number 5 - Facebook. Apple wasn't kidding when they said the social network would be tightly integrated in iOS6. Share photos straight from your Camera app, post your location from the Maps app, tell Siri to post a status for you, and remember birthdays by having your Calendar synced with Facebook. Also, if your friends change their contact info on Facebook, it automatically updates in your Contacts. And finally, two quick changes to the phone apps. First, Facetime now works over cellular and wi-fi connections, making it much more practical. And the phone now features a variety of options for incoming calls. Send them straight to voicemail, reply with a preset text message or set a reminder for yourself to call the person back when you're free. No more excuses for bad phone etiquette!
